How Robots are Taking our Jobs

Technology has undergone significant changes over the years. Unfortunately, technology has also resulted in job losses in various industries. On the other hand, advancements in technology have also meant more efficiency and faster service and product delivery. Historically, technology and robotics have been used to simplify tasks and make work safer. However, change is scary thus the fear of robots taking over employment and leaving people unemployed. Over the recent years, many articles and research reports have been addressing the negative impact of the internet on the human brain. This is an example of the argument against adoption of technology. Considering the intention behind every new technology, it is evident that innovators intend to improve life.

When written word started gaining popularity, it did so sine written word cannot be forgotten due to the storage factor. Such information stored in written sources has foreseen the development of leading technologies such as Google. Google allows people to search and acquire large pools of information that would not have become possible without the technology. Looking at many robots today, it is evident that they are being designed to take over mundane, unskilled, and other dangerous works. Taking the instance of a teacher, he/she can pass the skills and information in a class while a robot can mark weekly exams thus allowing the teacher to evaluate the learners as often as possible. Similarly, robots can operate dangerous live and high voltage wires without fear of death unlike the engineers.

In future, there is a likelihood of a partnership with robots developing. This will allow human beings to control and monitor data, process, quality control, and make the more emotionally invested business decisions. Many businesses today utilize marketing automation through the Internet of Things (IoT). Unfortunately, today’s robots are quite unaware of their surroundings. Often, this flaws puts humans at risk. As such, modern designers have been emphasizing on the importance of designing robots that keep humans safer while carrying out the required tasks.

While the fear of robots taking over work continues to persist, the Association for Advancing Automation reassures that today’s robots are merely collaborators. While some people may have lost their jobs, others have gained employment opportunities. Just like any human resource, robots also require engineers, maintenance and someone to give them orders. Instead of constantly worrying about losing work, people should consider such opportunities in a future of man collaborating with robots.
